Shanghai Banknote Printing Plant has produced special certificates and passports for the nation since 1950s' and 1960s'. In order to manage the products more subtly and professional, Shanghai Mite Speciality & Precision Printing CO.,LTD was founded in 1992. Shanghai Mite Speciality & Precision Printing CO.,LTD has two powerful companies behind it. They are Shanghai Banknote Printing Plant and Bundesdruckerei. Shanghai Banknote Printing Plant gives the traditional printing technology while Bundesdruckerei affords the lately E-PASSPORT technology and the information of the international business.

National passports and governmental documents are our main products. The company has developed and produced ordinary passports, business passports, normal passports, diplomatic passports, business border-passing certificate from and to HK & Macau and the Representative Certificate of the National People's Congress for the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the office in charge of HK & Macau affairs under the State Council and the National People's Congress. The first binding Chinese passport was produced in the company.

Following the development trend of anti-counterfeiting documents, Mite started to develop e-passport in 2005. Several equipments for e-passport, such as laminating machine, wiring machine, have been introduced by Mite. The development of inlays for passports has been finished. A standard COS, which is complied with the ICAO specification, has been developed successfully. Mite also introduced a laser-perforating machine with the function of pre-personalization and laser-perforating. Mite developed the binding thread for passports and the high security foil for documents. A testing lab for passports has been established, which could test the electronic and physical performance of inlay samples and passport samples. The technical chain has been made and achieved.
